The 80-20 rule made famous by Parento states that 80% of the effects come from 20% of the causes. In business one might find that 20% of the inventory makes up 80% of the value. In most organizations 80% of the work is usually performed by 20% of the individuals.
When applied to every day life you might find that 20% of the foods you eat contribute 80% of the calories. Or you might wear 20% of your clothes 80% of the time.
Since eighty percent of the results come from twenty percent of the effort, we should concentrate our time and effort on the 20 percent of our activities that are of high value. This applies to weight loss.
You must identify the 20 percent of your weight loss activities that will make the most difference. For most of us the twenty percent of any weight loss program that really matters are exercise and healthy eating.
Exercise is the most important component in weight management. It contributes the most to weight loss. Increasing your exercise to at least 30 minutes a day 5 to 7 days a week will drastically change your life for the better. You will not only lose weight but also become healthier.
Your stress will disappear or decrease. Adding physical activity to your daily routine will increase your metabolism. Adding weight lifting to your weekly routine will help you burn more calories. This in turn will increase your weight loss.
The other part of your twenty percent should be eating a healthy diet. Reduce your calories and eliminate fats and all refined carbohydrates. Eat more fruits, vegetables, and lean meats. Eat a big salad at both lunch and dinner.
You don't have to spend an inordinate amount of time on the things that do not matter. Stop starving yourself. Stop worrying about dieting. Don't waste your money on diet pills. Spend your time on these two things, exercise and healthy eating.
These are the twenty percent of your weight loss program that will lead to eighty percent of your weight loss. So concentrate on eating a healthy diet and exercising more. And watch the pounds disappear.
